Coming! 21 - 25 October 2008 Our next production, after Pirates of Penzance, will be the wonderful Music Man with numbers like “76 Trombones”, “Trouble”, “Lida Rose”, “Till there was You”, “Goodnight, my Someone” and “Wells Fargo Wagon”. So you see it has super music to enjoy. There are a multitude of parts, singing and non-singing, for both sexes and all ages. In fact, 10 for females and 11 for males!!!…a barber shop quartet of men and a quintet of bossy, gossipy local ladies included! To make it even better there are some lovely opportunities for big dance numbers for those of you who would like to “strut your stuff” and with Helene doing the choreography you can be sure you will have some great challenges.
To be a success this show will need the commitment of the whole company. It is definitely a big company show. Last time the company wanted to do it, it had to be cancelled through lack of people - but this time we are going to make it happen! The show is about a community in River City, Iowa who have an ‘Iowa kind of chip- on- the- shoulder attitude’ and say “we’re so by God stubborn we could stand touching noses for a week at a time and never see eye to eye”. Well this should give you some idea of what they are like as a community. Things start to change after “Professor” Harold Hill arrives and sells them a boys’ band. Interesting as he has no musical ability at all and teaches by his “Think System” (if you “think” it you can play it!). He is really just a fast- talking con man who gets his foot stuck in the door and falls for the music teacher and librarian. Rehearsal schedules are ready for you to look at, audition pieces sorted and character lists done, so do start taking a look at them and be ready for this wonderful show which we promise will have plenty for everyone to enjoy. It is a very big show to do and we shall need all the help we can get both on and off stage, so if you know anyone else who would like to be involved on or off stage, bring them along or give us their names to contact and they will be made most welcome by everyone. Don’t miss out on the chance to be part of it. We need you all and want everyone to enjoy the experience with us. See you there! Betty Moore
