We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to these members for their invaluable contribution to IMOG over the years. Without their contribution of talent, time and effort our group would not have enjoyed the success, and high standards of performance achieved.
rBack in February 1970, Peggy Godfrey and Alan Braun conceived the idea of forming a local musical society. Adverts were placed around the village of Ingatestone, and the first meeting was held at Peggy’s home.
This inaugural meeting was attended by nine enthusiasts – Peggy & Dennis Gadson and their daughter Beverley, Alan and Nesta Braun, Richard Enever, Alison Prior, David Ridgeway and Norma Quarterman. The ‘gang’ of nine became the founder members of the Ingatestone Opera Group (IOG), which was subsequently renamed Ingatestone Musical & Operetta Group (IMOG) to reflect the wider musical tastes enjoyed by its rapidly increasing membership.
Immediately after that inaugural meeting, rehearsals began for a production of HMS Pinafore. Things really started taking off a few weeks later on the arrival of Bob Taylor as Musical Director. Bob was head of Music at Willow Green School, now known as the Anglo European School and soon enlisted the help of some keen members from the Essex Youth Orchestra. He organised the use of the Willow Green School hall for rehearsals and Show Nights. Needless to say, that production of HMS Pinafore was quite a hit!
So, almost half a century later the ‘Show’ still goes on…….
