To all our good 'Friends of the Society' Thank you once again for all your support - the £10 subs, generous gifts and donations and support of our shows and fund raising events. Those of you who saw Fiddler on the Roof will agree that it was one of the best performances we have given. The male singers were so good, people were asking me as they left whether we had brought in professional singers, but no, they were all our own members, and along with a wonderfully enthusiastic cast, and the tremendous input of our producer and director - Betty Moore - the show was a great success. We now have a lively young group coming into our shows - quite a few of them from 'Young Expressions'.
We have already auditioned and cast the next show - 'THE BOY FRIEND' - and this will be performed at the Community Club from Tuesday 30th October to Saturday 3rd November. (More details in my next letter). Our next fund raising event will be a Summer Garden and Pool Party at Hutton Hall on Sunday 8th July by kind permission of Derick Sanders. Please bring all the family and friends and your garden chairs and towels etc. as hopefully, if the weather is kind, we can enjoy the lovely gardens and swimming pool. If the weather is not good the house is lovely too and we plan to have a Bottle Tombola, a Bric a Brac stall and a Raffle so do please bring along anything you can to fill the stalls, or give them to members before the event. Tickets will be £10 for adults and £6 for children under 12 - to include a welcome drink, buffet lunch and use of the pool etc. Please book your tickets from me or Dizzy (01245 360532) as soon as possible. There will be a bar in the conservatory at reasonable prices. Also, in July, a few of our male members - Sean Lilley, Michael Stokes and Liz Gibson are off to the Gower Peninsula in Wales to jump out of an airplane - In full pirates costume - to raise money for the Group. They are looking for sponsors and if you would like to sponsor their jump, please contact me on 01702 472752. If you and your family and friends wish to contribute to the efforts of these intrepid young men it will be very encouraging for them and much appreciated. Lynn is going to organise a concert - possibly in September - to be called a 'Turns Night' which means precisely that. People who would like to sing or do a turn can participate. She plans to make it light and fun. More information in my next letter. Brenda Roffey - one of our very loyal members has given us a sizable donation from the sale of her delicious jams and marmalades. Thank you Brenda. I am sorry to report that Peggy Barrett - one of our first FOTS members - has passed away. She was 86 years old and always attended our shows and was an enthusiastic theatre supporter. I shall miss her funny phone calls when she would talk about shows and plays she had seen. Our sincere condolences to her son Stephen and all the family. Also sadly Joy Innocent has died, at the age of 57. She was a member of the Group and danced and sang - especially in Guys and Dolls when she tangoed with great style. She was also a member of Chelmsford CAODS . A very sad loss to her husband John and family to whom we extend our sincere condolences. I would like to thank all those FOTS members who have sent in your 2007 subs of £10. Do please ring me if you wish to contribute to my letter. It is always interesting to have your opinions.
